eLearning Days in the South Bend Empowerment Zone

eLearning days are an essential part of continuous learning when schools must respond to inclement weather, built-in professional learning days for teachers, COVID-19 outbreaks, public health orders, or executive state orders by shifting to a temporary remote learning option.

While eLearning does have an online learning component, work may include on- and off-screen learning opportunities. Elementary schools in the South Bend Empowerment Zone use the Seesaw online learning platform to communicate with families and provide student eLearning assignments.

FAQ

  • The best way for students to access Seesaw from home is with an email address or through Clever/ClassLink SSO. If students are using tablet or phone devices for home learning, they will need to download the Seesaw Class App onto their device. If they already have the Class App on a home device, they will need to UPDATE the app for home learning codes to work. Students can also access the latest version of Seesaw from any computer at app.seesaw.me.

  • If students are sharing a device, then the first student will need to log OUT before a second student can log IN.
  • Students are counted present by completing the assignments for the continuous learning day. Students will have 3 days to complete the asynchronous learning assignments beginning with the day after the elearning day. For example, if an elearning day is announced by the superintendent on a Monday, student attendance would be recorded by the end of day Thursday.

  • Students not completing eLearning material or not otherwise checking in with their teacher will be marked with an unexcused absence unless a valid reason is presented to the school in alignment with current policies on absences.
  • On a scheduled learning day, Kindergarten students will be issued paper/pencil learning activities at this time.

  • On a scheduled learning day, teachers will provide paper/pencil work for students who are not yet able to work in Seesaw or do not have access to technology outside of the school environment.

  • On unscheduled days, teachers will provide paper/pencil work for students upon students’ return to school. Students will be given 3 days to complete these assignments once they are distributed. Upon their completion and return, attendance will be adjusted to reflect work completion.
